So here's the story, i tried to do nandroid backup via twrp to my usb otg cable on my Shield Tablet. Twrp didnt see the usb drive. So i had seen the "fix permissions" option and swiped to confirm the operation. It completes and i reboot. Now it just hangs on the nvidia powered by android logo. I do have a nandroid backup of boot, system, and data. But my twrp version is unofficial so i don't know if it would work bexause of that. Would a nandroid restore fix this problem of mine? And if so, would the fact that it's unofficial be a problem of restoring the backup?

Thanks for any help!!!!

I've heard that fixing permissions can cause Android to not boot. Try wiping /system, /data and /cache partitions, and restoring the backup again. This time don't fix permissions.

Should i also restore the boot partition? Also, is there anything bad that can happen after restoring those backed up partitions in this situation?

If you've flashed a custom ROM, then yes restore boot partition. The worst that can happen is that the data isn't usable for whatever reason, and you'll have to reflash ROM or do a factory reset.

So I restored only the system partition without wiping anything. But it's still stuck at the nvidia logo. What's next?

Looks like you'll have to do a factory reset. When doing this through recovery it won't delete data like music or photos (as long as you don't wipe internal storage or SD card), but you will have to reinstall your apps.

Is reinstalling nvidias stock rom guaranteed to fix this problem?

Im a little scared of using nvidias instructions for reflashing the stock shield tablet software because of possibly bricking it. Since im just rewriting stock software over stock software, except for the recovery that is. Can you confirm that i cant brick it by flashing stock over stock using nvidias directions? Thanks!!

Try flashing the image from custom recovery using a MicroSD card first, because this way you can't really brick it. It might overwrite recovery, but if you're already bootloader unlocked you can just reflash it.

So if i go by nvidias instructions and use fastboot to flash the boot, system, blob, and tegra dtb then i can't or i won't brick it? It already is bootloader unlocked btw.

You shouldn't, but it presents a bigger risk then just flashing a ROM via custom recovery.

Would this fix it?

Worth a try, nothing to lose

Could it brick it?

I've never had a bricked device as a result of flashing a ROM through custom recovery.

But i dont have a micro sdcard adapter on me to put the zip on the card. I can only do fastboot. So would following the video tutorial or nvidias instructions cause brick from fastboot commands (flashing boot, system, recovery, and tegra)?

Do you have a link to Nvidia's instructions?
