should i disable pagefile to get more fps and gaming performance? , since im playing only online games and i have 4gb 1333mhz ram but it doest get filled up anyhow it sometimes hit 3000 out of 4000mb but really never reach the 4000 because these are online games as far as i know.

but someone here adviced me to disable pagefile so i can really see the rams getting filled up(the real capacity) then i can decided if i have to buy more rams or not.

is this true? or i shouldn't mess up with this?

since i know that pagefile meant to store the unused data on the RAMs, so it doesnt affect performance or showing me a fake capacity of ram usage ?

Tell me how your logic works that disabling pagefile -> more fps and gaming performance. Because I'd really like to know how you worked that one out.

lol im asking here -.- , i didn't say it improves the gaming performance.. im asking because some ppl said it does.. and they explained it by that the pagefile has slow write-read speeds compared to ram, so the system is using pagefile since the ram gets filled up so that turns into a slow speeds (pagefile) because its the HDD . so if you disable it and add more rams it will be faster because u wont run anymore on pagefile which is the HDD speeds.

but actually i dont think so or im not sure so im asking here..

Disabling pagefile or decreasing its size less than 1gb will only bring trouble. Many software plus OS rely on pagefile as temporary solution when you ram get full of constant processes. It definetly won't help to get more fps. Actually ram has really low effect on fps in general. More physical ram will help on stuttering games, which isn't usually shown in fps.

You definitely should not be disabling the page file with only 4 GB of system RAM. Without a page file, if you run out of RAM your applications will just simply crash to the desktop. It will not improve your framerates. If your games were trying to use the page file for frequently-accessed data, you would see terrible hitching rather than simply lower framerates.

Even if you had a lot of system RAM, 16 GB+, you would still see no benefit to it. You just wouldn't run as great a risk of out-of-memory crashes.

so if i increase my ram to 8gb 1333mhz, then i should decrease the pagefile size to get more fps or i wont get any impact on performance?

so even with 16gb + disabled pagefile i wont get any impact of performance (FPS) in game?

Windows generally does a good job of intelligently managing your memory. It's putting stuff that needs to be accessed by your programs most often in your fast system RAM and it's using your page file for caching infrequently used data. It doesn't just brainlessly pile stuff into the page file just because it's there. It's not going to ignore 16 GB of DDR3 to use the page file.

Memory almost never affects gaming performance unless you are literally running out of it. And if you do, it causes noticeable hitching or stuttering. It's not like a video card or CPU where it just shaves a constant X FPS off of your average framerate.

Of course with only 4 GB of system memory there is a very real possibility that you're overflowing into the page file more often, but that's even more reason why you need it. With the page file disabled, instead of seeing that stuttering, your application will just crash to the desktop when it runs out of memory instead. What you need is another 4 GB of RAM.

Size of pagefile isn't impacting your fps. There's some other components that has effect. Having bigger pagefile makes running and starting software smoother when you have less ram.
