Do these work together?

Me personally would go with Z97 motherboards, some Z87 motherboards require BIOS update before it can be used properly, I mean the CPU.

yup it does but a bios update is needed. personally i would go with a z97 instead of z87.

My Z87-A came with the updated BIOS out of the box. I'd say its a good chance most of them will.

Of course its still a gamble.
