How does it dompare to optical and HDMI?

Is it surround?

S/PDIF : Sony/Phillips Digital Interface Format.  HDMI is better in the sense it can carry lossless audio.  That's the extent of my knowledge on the subject :P

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

Do you mean S/PDIF or are we talking about electron arranging?

If we are talking about S/PDIF, then it's an interface for a digital signal, that can be transfered either via coaxial or TOSLINK (which is optical)

Compared to HDMI, it is a bit more limited, since the protocl controlling the S/PDIF signal compress the sound, if it's surround sound. Personally, I can't hear a difference, but it matters to some people.

If you are only using a two channel signal, the sound will be uncompressed,

S/PDIF also can't run over as long a distance as other standards.

No no no, no more electron aranging.

I dont want to do chemisty now.

Talking of S/PDIF.

so is it basicaly the same as optical than?

And HDMI is the best?

S/PDIF is optical. As far as I know, TOSLINK is the standard for optical interfaces on electronic equitment.

In theory, the HDMI standard is better at transfering audio, since it doesn't compress the audio by deafault. However, most equitment does compress the audio anyway.

But even if the audio is uncompressed, I don't think you could hear the difference between HDMI and S/PDIF.

Just use whichever is more convenient for you.
