Computer not posting

I'm in the middle of a build log but since the computer won't post I've tried all 3 CPU's for it with no change-the Power and HDD lights turn on and the HDD light turns off after a few seconds-, and I can trip the bios by removing all of the RAM but not when I remove the GPU. Can some one please help as I really want to get this log done.

Yes. I've tested 6 sticks of RAM that I know for a fact is working (pulled out of another working rig), and when I test RAM that I know is faulty (errors in mem test)I get the beep codes.

I've only got 1 other motherboard that fits the CPU's, and its got blown caps.

I believe there lies your problem.

I dont know if you noticed but i was edging towards your mobo being at fault.

I'm going to check the CPU slot again, but unless its got damage or corrosion the motherboard is fine, its still not posting but its picking up when it doesn't have a GPU now as well as having no RAM.

Yep, though I haven't checked the connectors for corrosion yet.

What about the PSU being the problem, I had a system which wasn't posting because the power supply had some issues.

The motherboard doesn't have a 4/8 pin connector (though I've done that before with my overclocking rig-which was embarrassing). I'm going to try one of my better PSU's with it just to be sure, the current PSU was running my i5 and motherboard (no dGPU) with no problems a few weeks ago but the PSU is quite old by today's standards.

I understand-I've had that happen before. Marginally, it posts but now when I try to boot up XP from the HDD or installation disc I get the "Resgistry_Error" blue screen. Now to find what i need to replace next.

I don't know, as far as I'm aware its either a dead stick of RAM now or another HDD that I can use as a coaster-I know more about hardware than software.

No, the BSOD stays up.

Yes, the same thing happens. And the installation disc pops up the same BSOD when it gets to the 'starting windows' step before the installation process is started.

Yes, and before I get to the installation options after pressing F8 to agree to the EULA, the same BSOD pops up. I'm going to try this with no HDD plugged in. If it still has a BSOD I've got to re-test the RAM.

OK, the current problem was caused by the Slave 80GB HDD dying. And the current 80GB Master had more SMART errors when scanned last.
