Hi

I have ordered a new router to replace the ISP default one and was planning to use the ISP one as a subnetwork. Would this mean I would have a less laggy connection while gaming if I only had say my ps4 connected to the subnetwork and everything else on the main network. BTW my current connection is terrible for games like cod on the ps4 so I hope this would improve it.

Thanks

I think you might mean modem, not router :P (If you plug a coax cable into it like you would to a tv, then its a modem, and if you have to plug an ethernet cable in, then you can plug other things into it via ethernet or connect via wifi, then it's a router, or if its both, then it's a modem/router combo.)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Are you sure you want the ISP router with its spyware and monitoring bullshit on the inside of your network?

Sorry, NOOB.

Anyway do you think it would give me better speeds with less lag when gaming?

Wouldn't really matter cos your internet still exits the same cable from your ISP.  What you're doing only reduces the load of your router if I am understanding what you're trying to do.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

You'll only get better speeds if the equipment was a bottleneck.

Yeah the main reason I got another router was the current router would block me from downloading large files and it was suggested to me that a new one would sort the problem so reducing the load is a bonus and I hope it stops the lag a little. Thanks

I'd highly suggest you get a MODEM ONLY from your ISP. Do not get a Modem/Router Combo unit. You're network should look like this:

ISP -> Modem -> Router -> Client Devices.

Trust me on this one.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Yeah I can't remember which one but I'm not getting one with a coaxial cable

Edit:

The modem

If you're with a "major" Cable ISP, grab yourself a Motorola Surfboard Modem and just use it.

Here is a good one that will be great: http://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-Motorola-SurfBoard-SB6121-DOCSIS/dp/B004XC6GJ0/ref=pd_sim_147_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0VMCJJ1MV2SXWNQ9CE61

This will also save you ~$5 on your monthly bill as you currently have a "rental" charge. Also, if you changed providers in the future you could save on a "Installation Charge" or a "Equipment Fee" because you'll already have the required modem.

Once you get this modem, grab yourself a nice router to hook up to it so you can get all your devices connected. My favorite value router right now is: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-3-In-1-Wireless-Router-RT-N12/dp/B00DWFPDNO/ref=pd_sim_147_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=16117YSX1M9PB4J75619

But if you're willing to spring a little more money you can get a really great router like this one: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Dual-Band-Wireless-Router-RT-AC56U/dp/B00DES2FQW/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1431296362&sr=1-7

That router will do WONDERS for gaming and general media streaming while the "Value" router will probably get you just as good of coverage as the ISP provided combo unit with better response times.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Who told you that bs? Anyway I believe that a good router should have 3 antennas.

Before buying a modem, make sure with your ISP that they accept other modems on their network, many ISP will not allow that!
