Recently I started un-learning and learning how to type and while watching this video someone commented saying that resting your wrist and palm on the keyboard will give me all sorts of wrist pain and other things later on. Is this true? putting my wrist on air greatly effects/affects my accuracy.

Well, depends on your wrist rest, if you have a tiny one I would say it makes no difference, if you have one of those big comfy ones then you should probably use it.

While I'm not expert in this field, I do have some decent typing skills. With an average 115 wpm, I'll give my point-of-view.

Theoretically speaking, leaving your wrists slightly elevated in the air, will help you to improve on your accuracy and speeds. However, if you've learned to type with your wrists on a wrist rest of some sort, then changing over to having your wrists elevated (and technically learning how to retype), you might actually find yourself having a bit of fatigue in your muscles.

Do what's comfortable to you. At the end of the day, to all of us individuals who sit at the computer for hours on end, we are eventually going to have issues with our bodies. It's inevitable. :P

What they are probably talking about is the possibility of developing carpal tunnel syndrome. In order to prevent it you need to make sure that you're keyboard is at the proper height and that you are not holding your hands/wrists at an odd angle all the time while typing. It is usually recommended that your keyboard is on a keyboard tray so that when typing you pull the tray out and your keyboard is right at waist level. You shouldn't have to hold your arms at a weird angle or hunch your shoulders in order to type. Everything should be relaxed and comfortable.

I'm a very lazy typer, but I think that adds to my benefit. I don't use a wrist rest, instead I position my hands over my keyboard, lean back in my chair and have my forearms resting on the edge of the desk, this allows my hands/wrists to be hovering over the keyboard and be straight.

I haven't had any wrist strain doing this and when I get into the typing mood my WPM is around 90-100.

Honestly just find whatever works for you.

Eventually, depending on how much you type and other factors. I have pretty bad hands and frequent pain but playing guitar was far more damaging than using keyboard and mouse improperly, plus right now I can't evaluate what damage is attributed to that anyway because of nerve damage from diabetes.
