Best GPU choice to pair with an i5-3570k?

Right. That's why there are 49038394892394 reports of 100% usage and stuttering in GTA 5 with i5's on reddit and steam forums. Just google it. i5's are no longer enough for gaming, deal with it.

Wow haha so clueless. Something is wrong with your system bro. You are the only one I see complaining. I have the same system as you basically and my CPU sits at 80%~ in GTA getting over 90fps and doesn't stutter.

  • 3 months later...

Didn't want to start new topic about same problem, but i don't have much money to spend on high end gpu's and i mostly play wow (and on occasion to try newer games)..so i think 980 would be overkill for it.
Wich one should i concider if i want to maintain and/or bypass 60fps in raid environment on full hd monitor with i5 3570k and 8gb ddr3 with possibly high/ultra settings?

Ps: Been using q6600 with hd6780 and reaching 20-30 mark on low/medium..BUT on bad side (or good?) my whole pc burnd because lighting strike..so i'm building new one from scrach. Just gpu left.

I don't understand why everyone whines about GTA V raping CPUs when it runs perfectly fine on my (much worse then 4670K) Phenom II X6. Even in the city with lots of NPCs on screen, with pedestrian density and variety set to 3/4.

I seriously have no idea where a lot of these assumptions come from. I have a 3570K and 8350, both do just fine with Total War, which are CPU heavy games.

I can't imagine GTA-V would be any harder on the CPU than a huge RTS on ultra.

Pretty sure (but cant confirm as I uninstalled it and dont have the data files, and I recollect I was using 4xMSAA,... Grass is down a single step,..and advanced,...the advanced shadows were off afaik, so two things were reduced)

i5 4690 and GTX 970 end up being a really good pair, and GTA5 has zero issues.

Like the 80-90% CPU usage, NEVER EVER being 100%, and the GPU usage is generally always at 97-99%, never drops below 90% usage.

But if all OP doing is playing WoW, and not many other titles, you could do perfectly acceptable performance with a lot less GPU horsepower.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

First, you don't have much money but you can afford a 980? For a mostly wow gamer i think something in the line of a 280/285/280X/380 should be plenty, if you prefer Nvidia, a 950 should be enough as well, i wouldn't go with a 960 because for that price AMD offers much better options, and a 970 or 290 upwards i would consider overkill for your necesities.

You can't generalize like that.

In BF4 for example, i5's struggle to maintain 60 fps.

3570k @4.5ghz

Gtx 780

Never went below 70 fps maximum settings at 1080p.

Now im at 1440p it's a different story, but i still don't think bf4 is a good example.

However, my PC is getting on a bit now (over 2 years old) and I haven't changed or over clocked the i5-3570K that's currently in it at the moment so I'm wondering if the extra horse power something like a 970 or 980 offers would go to waste if I don't upgrade or over clock my current CPU which is currently still at the stock 3.4Ghz speed.

People often talk about CPU bottlenecks around here in the abstract (i.e. "will it" or "won't it" as a one-size-fits-all statement). There may be a few games out there that will be so demanding of your CPU that you will be bottlenecked a bit. But most games today at 60 Hz get so GPU-bound once you get to the Core i5 level that I really don't think you need to worry about it.

The i5-3570K is still so close to the fastest i5's available that you barely even have a reason to upgrade yet. Buy the fastest GPU you can afford and don't worry about bottlenecks.

Sir, i think we have a missunderstanding here. 980 was ,,kinda'' answer from later post.

I was thinking about gtx 760. First it will suit my needs, second never have nvidia card..and 3rd i find one cheap in warranty for 150e.. been thinking about that one or ati's 270 and go for nvidia.

Well, simply put the best GPU you can get for your money. Right now a 950 beats the 760 but probably prices are higher since it's a new card. If you were to go with AMD, i would say a 270X at least, if not, go with the 760
