When I first built my gaming PC nearly a year ago, I wasnt quite sure what I was doing and accidentally bought a single 8gb stick of RAM. I have heard dual channel gives a tangible improvement, so I am debating between buying a second stick of the same RAM for 16gb, buying a new kit in a 2x4gb configuration, or just staying with it since I only use it for gaming. Any help is greatly appreciated.

With the recent price drops I would buy another 8gb of ram for a total of 16gb. Do you know which stick of ram you currently have in your system? (model, speed, timings?)

Main Rig: CPU i7-4790k / MOBO Asus Z97-Pro (Wifi-AC) / RAM 16GB HyperX Fury 1866 MHz / CPU COOLER Dark Rock 3 / GPU Asus GTX 1070 Strix  / CASE Evolv ATX Tempered Glass / SSD Crucial MX200 250GB / HDD  WD Black 1TB + WD Blue 3TB / PSU EVGA 750G2 / DISPLAYS 2x Dell U2414h / KEYBOARD Corsair K70 RGB Cherry MX Brown / MOUSE Logitech G602

Laptop: Dell XPS 15 / i7-6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GTX 960m, 1080P Display

I think you can save up for a few months and then buy. But I think it's enough even though 16GB is life.

OS: Windows 8.1 OEM                 PSU: Corsair RM650                                Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97N Mini ITX                         Keyboard: Corsair Gaming K65 RGB

In regards to ram OP you don't need another 8 GBs for what you are doing.  Also the improvement in performance is 5% for dual channel or less than that and it only applies to certain applications so don't bother buying ram right now.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S
