So I have a gaming PC and a PS4. I like playing with friends in online games. On PC no problem I can connect to whoever I want when I want and I can talk to whoever I want when I want. On PlayStation, not so much. PlayStation claims its because of NAT type issues. So i looked into that and opened ports, set up a static IP, and even ran a 60 foot Ethernet cable to my PlayStation. NOTHING WORKS. I can't talk to my friends and I can't connect to them. Unfortunately I am still using the router/modem (I'm not sure which) that my ISP gave me. I was wondering what I could do to set my NAT type to open, if I can do anything. Its obviously something through PSN becuase I can connect fine on PC. I thought being it to this site because there are a lot more of you in the LTT community that know more about networking than I do(a lot more).

HELP!!!  :(

Addtional deatails:

Router is a UVerse Motorola NVG510

DOes not support UPNP or whatever it is that I keep seeing

I've opened all necessary ports

I've set up a static IP

I'm running a wired connection

Final question:

IS there a router/modem (still not sure which word is the correct one to use) I can buy that will provide an open NAT type?

For future reference using large font and bold letters is going to get you any better help so just use normal font size please.

I had a similar issue with my PS3/4 Not giving me the nat type I needed.  So I put my PS3/4 on the DMZ on my router to completely bypass the firewall, not really worried about my PS3/4 Getting virus' or getting hacked.  If you can't do this on your current Modem/router combo then I'd suggest you upgrade to any quality router.

A couple things we learned at my university from troubleshooting this stuff (I work for their netops team)

1. You need UPNP enabled/available on your router.

2. As @Ryoku said, putting your PS4 in the DMZ of the router *may* help.

3. It really boils down to needing a 1:1 NAT out to the internet if all intermediary devices out to the internet don't support UPNP. That is, your PS4 needs to have its own IP address on the outside if UPNP isn't available.
