SLI 780Ti Classifieds causing reboots

aduman

Hi, My PC reboots under heavy load while playing heavily modded Skyrim (Lots of texture packs, K ENB, downsampling from 2K res etc.) in SLI. However I don't get any reboots or errors without SLI. Strangely enough, Firestrike Extreme doesn't crash the PC when benching with SLI. But I seriously think that my game's current state is heavier on the GPUs than FS extreme. So it needs more power from the GPUs thus increasing the power consumption.

I found this:

http://www.evga.com/products/Specs/GPU.aspx?pn=88601331-dbce-436d-8eb3-37f1f63b6745

On requirements tab, EVGA recommends 42 Amp on the +12V rail. I have a Corsair AX860 here but couldn't find any info about its rails. Which PSU slots should I use to pull the recommended wattage?

Thanks! :)

PS: I hope this is not a dumb question.

The Corsair AX860 uses a single +12v rail, so it doesn't matter which of the modular connections you use.

In fact, all the +12v, +5v, and +3.3v come from one SINGLE line; it is down-converted to +5v or +3.3v via DC-to-DC voltage converter.

At this stage, I would identify whether if it's a software issue, or a hardware / power issue.

Check if the mod's are creating the issue, or if drivers are the culprit.

If you want, you can purchase a power meter and see if the Skyrim versus FireStrike power draw is significantly different.

Get something like the Kill-A-Watt power meter.

Thanks for the help! I finally understood the rail stuff. I did pull them back to stock clocks but it's still hapenning. I'll try different drivers. I have already checked mods one by one but will do again. That power meter looks cool but I'm in EU. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. :)

I'm also running a 2600K with two 780 Ti's on an 860W power supply from SeaSonic (the same OEM as your AX860) and haven't had any shutdown problems. They're overclocked, but they're only reference cards so probably can't go as high as yours. A shutdown without any blue screen or error messages does sound like an overloaded power supply though.

That's crazily similar to my system! :) First thing that came to my mind was the PSU but I heard a click when the reboot occured. Could it be my HDD? I still don't think it's my PSU as I can run extreme benchmarks fine. Thanks for the help!
