Hide your ip! (I need help)

Go to solution Solved by Neil,

IP's don't really carry precise geo-location. However a PC can indeed send a somewhat precise location if requested and granted by you. The only way the person can get your address is if they hack the ISP and check the logs to see when you got the IP and then search you in the client database. Which is not as likely to happen. My suggestion is to educate your sister on the dangers of the internet and setup some firewall. Also link that firewall to a VPN, for the time being.

Yup. Not at all. GeoIP can literally be anywhere. For example, I can own a block of IPs in Massachusetts but have them be physically routed in california. GeoIP would show my company's information.

Best way of locating a even /very/ general area would be with a traceroute to see where the routing goes.

Hello,

....my little cousin just gave her ip to a guy that "he just wanted to see if she really lives in Spain" u.u.. As she is just 14...obviously she doesn't know the risks. But somehow she realized that wasn't he smartest move ever. Lol

Now, I just installed has, I can use it cause we have a decent speed. But the problem is that the "guy" has the old ip which shows the city (Valencia) but we live 8 min away. It doesn't show the exact address, at least is what Google shoes me, but if he is a "hacker" with Linux lol he might get the exact address. Right?!

I called at my company they told me that I have an dinamic in that changes at X time. But my fear is that this guy have my address, my old one and I don't know how to delete it without calling CIA or FBI lol.

So any idea how can I delete or if is possible.. Or to redirect my ip to another city?

And how do I find latitude address with an ip address, the exact address of an ip?

Answer me here or in pm if NSA is watching... Or nvm is the same hahaha. No seriously pm if you can't share it here. Thanks!

Regards

Sounds like you're all worked up over something that has very little chance of actually happening.  A "hacker with Linux" doesn't mean that he can simply press a button and know your home address.  All hackers aren't as good as Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds, lol.  Any hacker worth his salt could do that from any OS provided he could penetrate your service provider, but that same hacker probably couldn't care less about you or your cousin.  Besides, if you do indeed have a dynamic IP, the hacker would probably know that too.  If you lived in Valencia, then he's tracked you down to 1 in 800,000 people.. but you don't even live there!  Relax.

Who said he was a hacker anyways?  The odds are, he's some 18 year old pervert who needs to be visited by Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC.

And also the exact diameter of the freckle on their left cheek, right?

@Op: Yeah you're worried about nothing. There's literally nothing they can really do with your IP address that will do anything at all--as long as you make sure you haven't done stupid things like setting a default port-forward address for all ports, or are running port forwarding for something like SSH, or RDC on a standard incoming port to a computer with an administrator password of "password". Then--you might have problems.

Odds are, they're just all talk. Using linux doesn't make someone a hacker.
