Scrap everything except dvd drive, HDD, card reader, and case

Then for 1k

MOBO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128545

CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504

SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147192

And get either a 8870 (when it comes out) or a 7950

A grand you say? Well it looks like you're golden on ram, a case, your hard drive, your OS... so this is what I would do (if you could write down the exact make and model of your MotherBoard that'd be great, but for now I'm just picking a good one out and you can use your discretion.)

That one has a sound card, and is a bit shy of your budget. If you already have a motherboard that has PCI 3.0, you could probably skip the mobo i have selected and go with some good peripherals, if you don't have them. I'm currently using an old gen Razer Blackwidow Mechanical Keyboard and a Razer Naga Mouse. Highly recommend both, but only get the mouse if you play a lot of MMO's. (otherwise get another, good gaming mouse, also I've heard Ducky keyboards are the shit)

If you don't want to get those, you can buy an SSD as well! I'm currently using a Crucial M4 of the 256 gig flavor, but a 120gig would be more than enough to have as a boot drive, as well as having some highly used, key programs on it. Trust me, they REALLY increase boot speeds.

If you need any clarification on anything let me know!

I'd go for Logan's most current build specs: http://teksyndicate.com/videos/build-best-amd-fx-8350-gaming-rig-1200, minus the 2133 memory and/or X60 cooler... replace with cheaper options (8GB is fine for 98% of applications/gaming). Maybe choose a cheaper AMD GPU instead of the 670, or go with a 660ti.

I'm in the same boat as you but holding out for the next gen GPUs and/or eGPU options for laptops...i just want 4K support to "future proof." Right now PC hardware is moving very very quickly...not that I'm saying it will slow down, BUT I do expect PC tech to soon eclipse the needs of "power users." But yeah, i'm sure your A6 and FX-4100 struggle so an upgrade is worth it.
