EVGA PSU

Go to solution Solved by Griffscavern,

I would prefer to stick with EVGA as I feel their prices are good at the 650W range, and they're apparently very good quality.

I really just want to know whether I should trade this one in and get a similar EVGA model or just keep this one and stop worrying about it.

Get the gs. I'll let jonnyguru explain it. Great PSU.

Anything over 3% on 12V especially on a unit with gold rating, full modularity, and a brand like EVGA is a fail for me, never mind a barely pass. And that's not even being picky, but rather function over form.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks this. I was stating the fact that it barely passed as a reason not to get it. I never recommend a g1 PSU. CX either. The gs is a great PSU. I prefer my g2 though, but since the op was asking about replacing his g1 with another evga. I figured he wanted to stay in that budget.

It's always a good day if you woke up breathing.

I am able to return it and get myself a 650GS instead, so excellent! It's only £5 more expensive as well.

I have a g1 myself and I use a 4790k at 4.5ghz and dual 970s factory gpu boost oc. Even with 6 led performance fans I push maybe 500w from the wall at 4k.

UPDATE: The PSU has been removed.

That was a fucking ballache, the motherboard standoffs in my case had actually come out and were attached to the motherboard screws. Fortunately, I got my did to unscrew it with a phillips and some pliers.

Side note, will bending the motherboard slightly damage it? I had to bend it a bit to try and remove the 4+4 pin CPU power which was cable managed behind the motherboard tray.

It can, but usually they can withstand a little bit of flexibility. Not a whole lot though. When tightening the mobo standoff screws, they only need to be snug. Don't give them the extra twist after they are screwed in. Just snug.

It's all back together.

However, I think my new PSU is making an odd noise. It kind of sounds like air escaping a sink drain.

Can I assume that this is normal?

Do you have it in eco mode ?

It's all good, it wasn't my PSU. It's my hard drive, which I will be returning today to be replaced or repaired.
