So the time has finally come for me to upgrade my gaming PC. As of right now I am using a 2008 HP desktop that just does not suffice. I want to spend a max of 2,000 USD on the upgrade including a higher quality monitor that I have not decided on yet (only one). The goal is to build a great computer that can be enjoyed for 5+ years and can be upgraded if needed and easily maintained. I already have all of the peripherals I need other than the monitor. Here is what I've come up with:

Case:

NZXT Noctua 450

Motherboard:

Asus RoG Maximus VII Hero

CPU:

Intel Core i5 4690K

Graphics Card:

EVGA GeForce GTX 980

Memory:

16GB of GSkill Ripjaws Z (DDR3 2133)

Power Supply:

Cooler Master V850

Boot Drive:

Intel 730 120GB SSD

I am a new builder so I have a couple of concerns:

1. Even with the crazy amount of fan support; would I need to liquid cool my processor? If so, what do you recommend?

2. Are the fans that come with the case powerful and quiet enough, or should I invest in some higher quality fans?

3. Will my processor and memory support the power of the GTX 980?

4. Does my power supply need to be a higher wattage?

Thanks guys!

The psu is a fine size for your build and even a lot of future upgrades.

Your cpu will be fine for the 980 as will the amount of ram.

Do you have the money to buy another 980 in the future?

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

1) You don't need to liquid cool, you may be able to get a better overclock on your cpu if you do however, then I would reccoment the kraken x61, if you wanted a non reference air cooler to save money get the hyper 212 evo, it's like a 1/4 of the price and you will be able to overclock with that too, just not as much, and it doesn't look as nice.

2) They are good quality fans, there isn't really a need to invest in better ones unless you want some for the looks (e.g for led's) or if you want really silent ones such as noctua fans, but I have that case (Noctis) and it's more then quite enough for me with the stock fans. (Although I do have a corsair air series 140mm fan with red LED at the back just for looks.

3) Your CPU and RAM will be more then fine, it wont bottleneck the performance, especially if you overclock the CPU.

4) It 100% doesn't need higher! You could even get away with lower, 750 is what I would go for if I were you, that will even still have room for another GTX 980 later on down the road.

i5 4690k | GTX 980Ti G1 Gaming | 16GB RAM | MSI Z97 Gaming 7 | NZXT Kraken X61 | 850 EVO 250GB x2  | 1TB 850 Evo NZXT Noctis 450 | EVGA 750W 80+ Gold

 Ducky Shine 3 TKL (Browns) | LG 34UC87C | Logitech MX Master ATH-M50x's + DT990 Pro's

That is a goal of mine in the future. Potential upgradability is a must.

Ok this is the build which you are suggesting to get put together on pc part picker. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/BtqhrH

I would get a build like this for the same price and better performance. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/6cPKLk

Thank you for the advice. I didn't think that I would need it, but being a new builder and all it I figured it couldn't hurt to check.

With the ability to upgrade to a second 980 down the road this is the build I would get this build as it's cheaper.

I appreciate the suggestions but I'm a US resident. I will take a look at the US PC Part Picker though.

I will try to put together a build based on US$ for you that's cheap.

I would go with something like this.

You could go GTX 970 SLI as a different option depending on what Monitor you go for.

The Antec power supply is a bargain at this price. I would get it whilst it is on offer.

CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 78.1 CFM CPU Cooler  ($64.99 @ Newegg)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($111.98 @ Newegg)

Storage: Crucial BX100 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($98.95 @ SuperBiiz)

Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card  ($539.99 @ Micro Center)

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Amazon)

Total: $1326.26

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

^This. If you still plan on going for SLI 980s in the future though like you said, just get a higher wattage PSU.  The 850W one you picked out would be fine, if a bit expensive.

I don't do signatures.

You will probably need a bios update with a Z87 board if it doesn't come with the latest one installed. That means you will need a non refresh cpu.

The EVGA NEX is pretty poor.

Nice cooler, but Noctua Brown doesn't really match Red/Black.

Not sure about the bios update but he said nothing about colour schemes so I'm going to presume he's ok with it.
