Did it fry anything?

Hey guys. On a build that I had that was completely stable, I decided to buy a brand new corsair ax860 high end psu. I had 2 no oced 980s and a 4790k, which shouldn't have overdrawn from it. The minute I turned it on with the new psu, it shut down, and capacitor fluid started leaking from one of the capacitors.

I was able to stress test the ram, cpu, and gpus amd boot into windows with no problem or weird temps with an extra psu I had laying around, but I'm just super paranoid. What do you guys think?

I take it the capacitor was off the motherboard?

 

Either way, if you tested, especially applying stress on the remaining parts, they boot, work just fine, etc.. Then you lucked out & ur good to go. Only other thing I would recommend would be to get a new PSU just in case. Personally.. I say same one, lol.. I use it on all 3 of my builds right now. AX860i. NEVER a problem. Won't even knock on wood; i'm that confident.

it was actually a surprise that it was a capacitor in the psu itself. I h actually have another one on the way from corsai at the momen;)

Ok whatever part is leaking capacitor fluid should be returned and you should not be using the pc any further until you get a new part.  Why would you risk using the pc in this condition?

I said that I tested the pc with an extra power supply I had..

I already sent the psu with the leaking capacitor back to corsair and they are sending me a new one

Yeah I see I didn't read closely enough.  Anyway I was right in saying not to use the leaky psu. LOL  GL in the future with your pc stuff hoping that you don't get anymore stuff to RMA.  It can be a pain in the butt especially if dealing with just the manufacturer.

Ohh.. Ok! 

Glad you went with the same one. Like I said, I love & rely on those PSUs as my main drivers for any important build.
