I'm going through this forum and I can barely afford my $500 laptop and most of you guys are getting $1000+ first builds and a lot of you don't even know what you're talking about (not talking about you DL Scary) But your build is good but I have a bit of criticism. I know your motherboard looks sexy but it's not worth the money. Get the Z97-A or something cheaper. You also don't need that much power. Go for 650W or 700W if you want. 8GB of ram is really enough. 16GB will hardly make an impact. Also you don't need a i7-4790K, it's good but maybe an i5-4690K or i5-4670K. The i7 will you give you a fps boost but you really don't need it. You already have a 970 and a i5 or i7 will still give 80+ fps on most games. For cooling get a 212 EVO or H100i.

24 fps for that "cinematic" feel

After a couple weeks of behavioral sciences at my school I can easily conclude my parents need to grow up.

Get higher SSD storage. With a budget so high, I suggest you get 256+ GB in SSD storage.

MOBO is just a huge waste of money. An ASUS Z97-A gets the job done with a much cheaper price tag.

I made a better combination:

Get a job...my first build was $2,000...it's about saving also, I agree with the higher SSD storage, and you may want a CPU cooler since you got such a high end CPU, please don't use the default one, H100i GTX is great, I really like Corsairs aio coolers.. I got one and works great.

What are you using it for?

Here's what I'd recommend:

For gaming, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NdZJXL

For rendering/work and gaming http://pcpartpicker.com/p/X3L9Lk

For rendering and work http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FDPFhM

I tried to stay under the $1300 mark, since that's what your original build came to.

Keep in mind these are just general builds, but still really good value to performance.

I'm parting out a new PC. It's going to be the first one I build myself.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/T7rvFT. <- is the current list of parts I picked out, for a gaming-centric build. There is no CPU cooler, because I want to do a custom loop for the build.

Did I pick anything wrong? Are there less-expensive parts I could use instead? Is there anything you could recommend to make this better/faster/cheaper/all of the above?

my bugdet is 1000-1800 im from the usa

If you are only gaming then you could drop down to an i5 4690K and 8GB Ram. You could also go with a cheaper cooler such as the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo.

The Antec Platinum psu is at a very good price at the moment. I would get it whilst it is on offer.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 73.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($106.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($111.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Kingston Savage 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($111.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Crucial BX100 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($94.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card  ($329.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case  ($97.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $1321.88
