It depends on if the wireless you get in the new room is good enough or not.

I myself have been using wireless with my desktop for around 8 months now, due to the close location to my router (next room over, behind 1.5 walls from my computer) and have no issues with it. (Though I will be switching to ethernet now that I have some money to spend on a gigabit switch so I can have that and my "server" connected via ethernet at the same time)

I have experience with cheaper powerline adapters, and even they were just much better than wireless. Mind you my house isn't that old, and cables are in fairly good condition. Personally, if I can't get Ethernet to the system (some people who rents is not allowed to drill holes in the walls) I go with powerline as plan B.

Powerlines, like WiFi, depend on the room you are using them in. I always prefer to use ethernet wires but my brother likes his powerline. It works well in some rooms, in other rooms it is not as fast or reliable. I bought one from NCIX to try out and they allowed me to return it after I told them it was slower than my WiFi.

Powerlines are fantastic if you do not have means of running proper ethernet. I'd take a powerline connection method over Wifi any day, if I was posed with having to purchase either a wifi adapter or a powerline.*

I'm lucky (heh) to have a small home where my Wifi reception all over the house is strong enough to enable full speeds for my internet (which is 75Mb on average, fibre) - so that is good enough for me. If I had issues, I would buy a powerline kit which has a wifi transmitter/receiver built in - they're a very neat way to extend connectivity range.

*Unless it is a laptop.
