Hi guys,

I have recently noticed that my PC has some sort of coil whine even if it's off... The only thing powered is the PSU, and the leds on the mobo are on, and i hear a little whistle, like it was coil whine... My PSU is a RM850... Do you have any ideas if it's dangerous, why it is happening and such?

Thank you,

EMENCII

What....how the hell is this possible?!

When you say even when it is off, do you mean like if you just shut down or long after you shut done the frigging humming still there? Do you know what component is making the noise?

Right when it shuts down it's normal, it keeps turning up the noise until i can hear it with perfect silence from two meters away... I thought was the PSU because it's the only thing that the current passes through...

My charger whines whenever my phone isn't plugged in. Again there's still power flowing through it as long as it's in the wall socket. The power just passes through instead of being consumed.

Then it has to be the PSU and i keep hearing about coil whine with the Corsair RM series of PSUs but i have no idea how this problem is happening. I would contact Corsair's support.

When the PC is on there's no coil whine... .-.

wtf man....you have reversed coil whine going on. I really would contact Corsair about it. No charger should be causing this unless the charger is faulty. I have a charger plugged into my motherboard all the time for the fast charge feature and i do not get any coil whine with my cheapo PSU which many people laugh at.

My PC does the exact same thing after I've shut down and doesn't stop until I've turned it back on again.

There is always a small amount of electricity running through the power cord to the PSU which can cause coil whine.
