Hello.

Well i bought a ps3 so i can play god of war (old game i loved) but a problem is i dont have a tv beacuse i dont need one. I have 3 dell u2412m monitors and i want to connect ps3 to one of it. Problem is monitor doesnt have a hdmi output and i tryed pasive hdmi to displayport but it didnt work. Should i try with hdmi to dvi-d?. or do i need an active adapter or something?

oh shoot

you need splitter with audio port

personally I have HDMI to VGA + audio port

but it might not work because PS3 had HDCP

*Note: I don't use it for any console, I have it just in case since few system only had HDMI output, I don't own any console

There are no HDMI-to-DisplayPort cables, what you got was a DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable, those only work from a DisplayPort output to an HDMI input, they don't go the other way around.

An HDMI to DVI cable will work, but won't carry sound to the monitor.

You need an HDMI to DisplayPort converter ("active adapter") although converters are pretty finicky and don't always work.
