i have

2x computer

1x nas

1x switch connected to

          1x xbox one

          1x ps4

          1x Wii U

          1x Xbox 360

          1x LG smart TV

connected by CABLE

and then i have

3x laptops

2x iphones

2x ipads

1x android phone

1x 3DS

all connected over wi-fi

the dropped connections only happen on the wi-fi connected devices

I've had problem with my current router the DIR-865L for quite some time, it seems to drop the wi-fi connection randomly and sometimes doesnt connect at all.

i finally tried to figure out what was going on and it seems i have too many devices connected to the wi-fi.

i came to this conclusion after trying to connect the ipad to the wi-fi and it not working, i then disconnected one of the laptops from the wi-fi and then tried to connect the ipad, and it worked instantly.

Any advice on what router i could get to replace this one?

Get dual-band for sure. I recommend staying away from Linksys now, as Belkin owns the name and products now, and I've not liked the new UI or performance in comparison to when Cisco owned them.

As far as my recommendations, you have a lot of devices, and I'm a Netgear fanboy. I love my Nighthawk, and that will give you the dual-band you need, as well as good range (aside from physical interference, but that's a lot more work to factor in). The Nighthawk x6 is also a nice choice, being $50-100 more, depending on sales and where you buy it. Again, you get good range, but instead of two networks (one 2.4GHz, one 5GHz), you get three (aka tri-band. 1x 2.4GHz, 2x 5GHz). Both routers become more powerful with DD-WRT firmwares that were custom made for each respective device. That's what I use on my original Nighthawk. The Nighthawk x4 is not one I would recommend, as the original has shown to work better or equally in real-world tests, and for $50 more (if the x6 is $300), you can get significantly improved performance.

Of course, a budget would be greatly helpful. I honestly doubt you'll find anything jaw-dropping below the $150 range, to be honest. But I could be wrong.

EDIT: I may not be considered an expert on the forums, and some may disagree with my opinions, but feel free to PM me. I'm a networking student with a heavy focus on wireless, and I feel more than confident with the knowledge I have :D

You can check out this Asus router. It support both 2.4 and 5GHz, the coverage is great and the signal is stable and strong.
I have 2 laptops, 1 TV, 3 phones and also a PS4 and a PS Vita and when my friends come over you can double or triple the connections and this router didn't break a sweat.
As for speed performance the Asus is one of the fastest routers and has a easy and to the point configuration software.

The price right now is about 130 dollars.
