Antivirus

Go to solution Solved by Kiyuubi,

I think we really need a sticky on this, or recommend software in general.  I feel like this question is asked too much.

That aside:

For free AV you should either get Avira or Bitdefender.  Bitdefender is more lightweight, but it doesn't give you many options in terms of control or how it works.

If you want a paid one then either Bitdefender or Kaspersky.  I would probably go with Kaspersky just for the fact that their team has found a lot of security issues in the past.  You can also check out AVTEST, a third-party company that rates AVs.  (Bitdefender and Kaspersky are the top 2)

You will also want to scan your computer weekly, or whatever amount of time you are comfortable with,  with Malwarebytes.  Just to be clear, Malwarebytes is NOT an AV, nor should it be used like one.  So do not run it along side your AV, only use it is a scanner.  Make sure to not accept the trial it offers, and to disable it on startup.

Hey guys, im currently using Norton but I heard from many friends etc that Norton is one of the worst anitivirus programms and also slows your pc massivly down.

I also heard that Avast is pretty good, but ive got no money so i just be able to get the free Version. Is it worth to uninstall Norton and use Avast from now? Or is there any better Antivirusprogram?

I consider Kaspersky when ive got the money is that good?

Thanks for replys

I have used Kaspersky for the last 5 years. The first year was the most expensive, but to renew each year was cheap, cheap (especially when you can find online coupon codes). Kaspersky updates itself way too often, but I guess that's a good thing. I haven't heard many good things about Norton for many years, but I think individual experience can be different based upon current configuration, etc. I have never understood the interest in free anti-virus software (other than what free version Malwarebytes offers).

first, install malwarebytes

you want this in addition to whatever antivirus you use

antimalware is not the same as antivirus

then choose either AVG free or avast free

they both work very well

i like how AVG looks better, but they both do a good job
