I'm looking to build a basic HTPC and general  computing desktop and I am trying to stay as close to $400 (or less) as possible. This is what I've come up with as of now.

CPU: AMD A10-7850K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($151.98 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus A78M-E Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard  ($59.64 @ Newegg)
Case: Rosewill Galaxy-01 ATX Mid Tower Case  ($44.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $411.59
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Only thing I would say, do you need 16 gigs of RAM? Possibly use the saved money and get a better cpu? I can't say 16 gigs isn't a good idea, because it is, but possibly a better cpu? I am not sure tho, I would wait for someone who knows more about AMD than me to chime in. I am pretty much an Intel fanboy........

Thanks for the replies! I was thinking with the 16gb of RAM I wouldn't have any issues with multi-tasking. I watch HDTV from my computer while running browsers and stock market software. I am currently running 12gb on a AMD Phenom x4 and tend to bump up against the upper limits of my memory.

Would you be running the stock market software on the HTPC?

Thnaks for the posting info WoodenMarker.

Yes I will be running the market software on the HTPC. I will be running a Monitor and 1080p Plasma to start and plan on adding at least one more monitor in the future.

What kind of software are you running? If you know what the software is heavily reliant on, that could also be useful.

I'm running Think or Swim from TDAmeritrade and it is Memory intensive, usually idling at around 6gb of RAM and rising to 8gb when streaming video feeds within the software

That helps.

Are you using the system for anything else? Light gaming or the sort?

I'm not really a gamer, in addition to the browsing I do some light video editing with the Winx Suite and Windows Movie maker. Mainly changing from one format to another or splicing clips, nothing very heavy or regular.

I need HDMI as that is what my A/V Receiver and TV use

In that case, you could get a different motherboard with hdmi: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/biostar-motherboard-h81mhv3
