PCI-express 3.0 question

Because I hear about stuff about PCI-express 4.0 to be released somewhere in early 2016, made me wonder

 

How close is the PCI-express 3.0 x16 to being maxed out by current graphic cards, what percentage of it does the Titan X use for example. How long do you think it will last before it will become a bottleneck for next gen GPUs

PCIe 2.0 isn't being maxed out yet, so PCIe 3.0 will be fine for a really long time.

a GTX 980 does not bottle neck at PCIe 3.0 x8, but does at x4

This. Heck DDR2 is barely a bottleneck and DDR3 is not a bottleneck at all, and yet it's still going strong 7 years after the standard. I think the PCI people are just bored.

DDR2 a bottleneck? At 800MHz and above you don't actually notice it impacting performance at all.

There are more devices that use pci-e then just graphics cards (and even for graphics cards more bandwidth wont hurt especially for compute purposes)

The OP was about PCIe in relation to graphics cards. A co-processor would benefit from PCIe 4.0
