So today my mother observed that her computer was having some problems.
Little bit of info about the PC:
CPU: AMD X4 955 BE
Mobo: GA3-UDH-IDon'tRemember
Storage: 2*500GB drives in RAID 1

She said she thinks she might have a virus. So First I try to run some of her current computer care tools (Advanced System Care 8 and Avast). I got an error for both that read something along the lines of "Cannot find disc".

So I go to download MalwareBytes. Nope. "Out of Disc Space"
Look.
"300GB out of 693GB used"
What.

After this I open up the computer to find a unplugged HDD in there. I plug it in, select it to boot from the old ones (RAID Array). Gives me some errors. I take out the old HDD (After turning off the PC of course).
Turn back on. Get these errors when attempting to log into a user account and a myriad of other errors of the same kind when logged into the user account.

There were a total of 5. As follows. I couldn't get what the error box said because it was very long.

Errors:
Userinit.exe - Bad Image
AtBroker.exe - Bad Image
GWX - Bad Image
dwrm.exe - Bad Image
Explorer.exe - Bad Image

After I got into the user account it gave a myriad of <randomnamehere>.exe - Bad Image errors.

This is really bad considering all my parents files are on that PC. And yes, I did go in safe mode and back up all the very important files (Resumes, etc) onto a USB stick.

Any help provided would be much appreciated! If you need any more info, feel free to ask!

I'm going to tag @Opcode because he knows everything.

How big is the malewarebytes file?

Edit: that was a stupid question... No file is more than fucking 400 GB

I can tell you it's certainly not 300GB.

Try running the system file checker utility from a command prompt (SFC /scannow). If that doesn't work you may need to run the machine through Windows repair to straighten it out. Although if you already got everything backed up I don't see why not just do a fresh clean install.

Will do. Windows repair goes into a loop that does nothing. I left it for ~an hour. Only thing it says it that it needs a backup or something. My parents never backed up their PC though.

It was actually a PC that my uncle built for them before I was into PCs (coincidentally, that's why I first got into computers), so I don't have the key, or disk even. MY mom is always complaining about how slow it is as well. I heard Linux manages system resources better, so I might go down that route.

If all the machine is used for is web surfing, document editing, and other basic daily tasks then I wouldn't even bother with Windows myself personally.

I would boot the system from a live Linux USB.  That should give you access to all of the files on the computer that you want.  Then I would move them to an external hard drive.  Then I would re-install windows, or whatever operating system you prefer.

(This is just a theory but it's worth a try)

Main Rig:

Server:

Just sayin, advanced system care is pretty much malware itself. basically never install anything from IOBitch if you're tech savvy for even 1%.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro
