I'm thinking of building a budget PC to compliment my main rig. I'll primarily use it for LANs with my buddies playing games like Battlefield, Minecraft, modded skyrim, etc. Any suggestions? I'd like to keep it in the $500 range and dont worry about a hard drive; I already have one lying around and I plan on overclocking the G3258 (hence the decent motherboard).

i'd go with a 280 but for the purpose of a LAN rig a 960 is fine

and try to fit a core i3 4150 in there

280 would outperform the 960 by a bit and it's the same price. Now power consumption is another talk ;)

I think that really depends on the game honestly. Because my 760 pulls neck & neck with my 280 in *most* games. However, the 960 is cooler, quieter, and much more efficient, so I would tell op to go with what he's got.

But also, an i3 would help out in battlefield. As BF uses up to 8 cores. So, the hyperthreading of an i3 would be great.

Although, you could go AMD and grab an Athlon 860k and mobo, for around the same price. That will give you two more cores.

Only issue with going AMD is there is no upgrade path in their CPU's which is saddening

This is very true. I hate that you literally have nowhere to go with them. They need to get their stuff together. I guess if you would like to upgrade, go Pentium/Z97, but if not, Athlon.

Yeah it's sad because I want something fresh in the market and Intel is just getting boring. But yeah athlon is great for its price.
