Anyone have a Raspberry Pi they are using as a media center?

Got a Pi yesterday, loaded noobs onto my SD card installed OpenElec, worked fine.

Plugged in my hard drive and good to go.

However, when I press a movie to play it loads pretty much instantly (from hard drive), but when I try to switch to a different movie (on the same HD) while the other is still playing, it freezes for 10-15 seconds (remote becomes unresponsible, but previous movie still plays in background) and then it catches up and plays the new movie and everything is fine again.

Disabled all the stuff that may be using CPU power, I cant even see If the CPU is the problem and the debugging tool at the top freezes as-well.

Tested my hard drive on my other media center, it doesnt do this, so it isnt my hard drive.

I cant even instal any other OS onto the Pi, tried Rasxmbc, it doesnt even load only OpenElec will boot.

Any suggestions?

Surely the Pi is powerful enough to be able to switch been videos on a hard drive seamlessly....

It's a little computer you can use for many things, one of the most popular is a XMBC/Kodi media center, google it :P

I can't find anything on google about this problem.....

itss probably the hard drive trying to keep up my raspberry pi B+ has no problems at all with switching, but i have a nas with a nice raid4 setup so that isnt at least the problem, try adding a second drive.

Computer's don't make errors. What they do, they do on purpose.

Have 2, 3TB, they behave fine on my other media center (the emachine ins my sig) instant switching.

if the files are both on the same drive this might be a problem.

What do you mean?

I've tried 2 files on the same hard drive, switching from one to another (both powered on ready to go), still the same issue.

try two files on two different hdd's

I have, the same issue.

Tried lowering the resolution, using very low size video files, doesn't effect the freezing.

Pretty much all the "nice" options are turned off and its on the default fastest skin.

Once a video is playing everything is fine can switch between menus no bother, just when trying to switch to a different video it freezes.

I have, the same issue.

thats stupid, i have never had a similar problem before, i can only think of a raid array to speed up the drives. can you try slamming the drivas to another (faster) pc and tryy if you get the same problem?

As i said in first post, I've been using my 2 hard drives in the media center in my signature for awhile now, it doesn't have the same issues, instant switching.

The hard drives are not at fault, they are fine.

ow, only thing i could think off is reinstalling the raspberry and checking if it works then. otherwise this is out of my knowledge.

Re-installed like 4 times now, no change.

Thanks for helping though :/

But the Pi should be able to handle video switching pretty much instantly right?

Maybe my SD is not good enough (its a class 10)
