I'm looking to build a pc in the coming months but I am aware of a lot of hardware discussion and believe I know a lot to start building but now I question build now and buy / build and buy as I go because of the number of GPU releases lined up.Like the 980ti and R9 390x.IDK what I should do.Or should I just build now I have $500 on me right now and will get the remaining $1200 CAD in two weeks(Total $1700 CAD).What do you say? I wanna game at 1440p and need a 1440p monitor.

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

IMO dont wait for the 390x nor 980ti since those gpu's are under your budget so just get a 4690k and a 980 and an ssd and done

use pcpartpicker if you want us to review your build

i7 4760? don't you mean the 4790k and no don't waste money on a hyperthreaded cpu if hes not going to use hyperthreading

The 300 series isn't just releasing the 390x, and things like 370x will probably lower prices, not by much probably but something.

A release of a 980TI won't lower the price of anything, maybe a 980 sale. The Titan X is too new to go on any massive sale due to the 980TI, and both are out of the price range anyway. (Unless you just crapped everything else).

I would for sure get all the money before thinking about picking stuff, especially because more announcements may be made of cards upcoming in that time period.

Current Desktop Build | 2200G | RX 580 4GB | 8GB RAM | CTRL | Logitech G Pro Wireless

Laptop | 2018 MBA 256/16GB | MX Master

Try and stay AMD. You can get octa-core and run 2 or 3 beefy GPUs in CrossFire, and have enough money left for case, mobo, power supply, Windows, and that fancy monitor.

Ummm no?

AMD GPUs are fine. Old but fine.

AMD FX-series is on a whole 'nother level of old. Just because they have octa-cores doesn't mean that they won't be outperformed by a processor with half the core count.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

yep.... i would consider myself an AMD fanboy, but until Zen launches in 2016, (which you don't want to wait for) AMD's instructions per clock is so low compared to Intel that I wont go recommending AMD cpu's for high end builds... (which your $1700 build is borderline on)

as for the 390x launching at the same price as the 980/980ti..... likely complete BS.... unlike nvidia who are money hungry apple-think-alikes (charging as high as anyone is prepared to pay) AMD has traditionally (emphasis on traditionally) charged what their cards are worth.... and when they are ahead in performance Nvidia price drops to match.... as AMD hasn't had any serious advances in gpu performance recently, Nvidia has been able to charge whatever they want.... but don't expect the titian x to drop... the titan level cards just don't drop price that much as they have use in gpu compute/rendering ect. because of their massive frame buffer... and i would disagree with the idea that the 980ti wont change anything... it is likely going to be released to just beat the 390x or to go as high perf. as gm200 can go (in the case the 390x is a beast)... so it will change things, but likely only in response to the 390x... and obviously the 980 will fall dramatically to try and match the 390x in price/perf.

but current-gen hardware is also prefectly fine, and if you were to go with amd gpu's it is likely that most of the lower 300 series will be re-brands anyway....

and my final piece of advice is while your waiting for cash/hardware to get searching for a nice (aluminium) case on the second hand market for a good price..... lian li's ect. can be had for a steal every now and again, all you have to do is keep an eye out on ebay/local classified ad sites/buy,swap,sell of forums..... or wherever people in your country sell cases/ 2nd hand hardware for a good price....
