Hey all,

Here's a link to my current build choices: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/P29Q99

Just wanted to get some feedback on my current choices, specifically on the graphics card and processor.

Also, anyone have comments on the motherboard and the case? Recommendations are also appreciated.

EDIT: just for clarification's sake, this is primarily a gaming build, but I also plan on using it for heavy simulation work (CAD, COMSOL, ASPEN)

1080p/1440p High end gaming rig- good parts. You don't need the thermal paste- the coolers comes with it. 16GB RAM? Get 8GB.

Looks good for 1080p/1440p gaming! But that PSU overkill. Haha. Are you planning to SLI in the future?

CPU: Perfect Choice

CPU Cooler: Good Choice

Thermal Compound: No need, included with CPU Cooler

Motherboard: Get a cheaper one, you don't need a $150 Motherboard

Memory: You could get away with 8GB in all modern games

Storage: A Crucial MX100 SSD would be cheaper, and go for the WD Blue 1TB, They're a lot cheaper

Video Card: Perfect Choice

Case: Good Choice

Power Supply: Good Choice

The thermal paste was just for other projects, forgot to take that out of there xD

I've been doing some tweaking with the build, here's what it looks like now: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qyYvkL

Anyone have any suggestions for a cpu cooler that fits the red/black theme? I like the noctua cpu cooler, but would rather not have to go through the trouble of painting it myself.

Why such a beefy cooler? Are you shooting for particularly high oc's?

Are you planning to sli?

Looking to make the build as silent as possible, and yes I am going to overclock at some point.

Also, I'm just interested in seeing how low i can get temps with the H105 with this setup and use it as a reference point for future builds.

What's your final budget? You could add a Kraken x61 which is black and change the RGB led to red. My build below does the same with the x41, pics in link.

Not immediately, but when I do, I'll probably switch over to a full water cooling build.

I'm trying to keep it under $1400 USD (unfortunately PCPartPicker doesn't count sales tax). I'm about to start a new job so I'll have more money to splurge on this and a couple other plans in a few months.

Is that a yes with plans for a custom loop in the future?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on SP fans that will follow the red/black theme? I realize that with the NZXT H440 having very limited ventilation space, I will probably need to have fans that can pull really well in order to get adequate flowrates through any radiators.

Yeah I do plan on doing a 2-way SLI with 2 GTX 970s

I wouldn't splurge on an expensive heatsink when you're going to a custom loop anyway.

I'd suggest buying new fans along with your rads when you do get to wc'ing.

I don't plan on switching over to my custom loop for at least a year. Any particular reason you chose the Asus strix over the Gigabyte G1? I figured that if I'm going to be OC'ing later on, the G1 would be the best option.

The Strix is quieter and you mentioned you wanted the system as quiet as possible. It also doesn't hurt that it's a bit cheaper.

But since I will be WC'ing later, it shouldn't matter that the card is louder.

It would matter until you replace the cooling.
