There's like 2 games worth a damn that would benefit from a PhysX card. I did it with a Geforce 8800GTS as the PhysX and a 650ti as the main card once just to see what I would gain. I got like a ~10FPS increase in Mafia 2. You'd be getting 60+ on max settings anyway.

I have an R9 285 Right now, and some games I play work better with PhysX. could I uses a GTX 560 as a PhysX card? Even though the next slot is only 8X?

Sorry if this is in wrong section...

Only if the 560 has old drivers, nvidia put out in their drivers to block usage when it sees and amd card in the system being used.

Yes, you could even use a 1x slot and it'd work. I'm just saying there's absolutely no point at all.

That I now of, you can't use an AMD and Nvidia card at the same time.  Nvidia put a block on this a while ago in their drivers I believe. (Though maybe there's a workaround?)  As far as the idea of a dedicated physx card.  Not really worth it considering how few games use the technology.  It is a very nice addition in those games, but you'd benefit from having more gpu power in general.  Nvidia cards will work in x8 slots.

I just want to use ut for Batman Arkham Knight as the system requirements were released

Still won't make a noticeable difference.

I'd say just get rid of both the R9 285 and GTX 560 and buy a powerful nvidia gpu, like the 970.  That should do all you want it to at 1080p for Akrham Knight.  Easier and better performance than your implied hybrid gpu system.

That's unfortunate.  Since you already have the cards just try it.  In your case it the alternative is no physx since without an nvidia gpu you'll be getting garbage performance if you try to turn any physx effects on.

That's funny because I actually just got a XFX 8800GTS XXX Edition for like 10 bucks lol

I wanna use it as a PhysX card but the only game I play that has PhysX is Assassin's Creed 4 xD

And having 2 graphics card in a system is cool so there's that.

But yeah. Got a GTX 960 and FPS takes a hit when I turn on PhysX in AC4. Don't worry man, we're in the same boat here.

Pairing really old GPUs with new ones actually can cause them to slow down when forcing PhysX, so be wary of that.

I would say if you REALLY want PhysX, you should flat out get a solid new nVidia card for it. Otherwise, there may be a way to force it on a powerful enough CPU, depending on the effects used. It works fairly decently in Metro Last Light Redux and Borderlands 2, but I don't know what extent the load in Arkham Knight will be, nor if the game itself will be a CPU-devouring beast (leaving little power for PhysX calculations).

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
