Hi Guys, I'm experiencing fps drops in GTA V, and don't really see why.

I'm using the latest AMD OMEGA driver. Current hardware:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 (Stock)

  • Motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990 FX Rev 1.0
  • RAM 16 GB Crucial DDR3 1600MHz
  • GPU XFX Radeon HD 6990 4GB (Stock)
  • Case AeroCool X-Strike GT
  • Storage 2x HDD Drives. 640GB 3.5" + 240GB 2.5"
  • PSU Aerocool V750
  • Display(s) Samsung SyncMaster SA700
  • Cooling CPU: Asus Silent Knight II + 7x120mm Case fans
  • Keyboard Logitech G15
  • Mouse Logitech M525
  • Sound SteelSeries Siberia
  • Operating System Windows 7 64x Ultimate

CPU temps 52'C MAX

GPU temps 85'C MAX (Fan ramps up around here, and brings Down to 78'C)

I have all settings maxed out. 1080p FXAA , NO MSAA, Textures on Medium, rest of the settings are maxed/Ultra. Everything in "advanced Graphics" is off or lowest possible. Ram bar shows around 3750MB/4000MB  (Yes this actually considers Crossfire).

In game I get VRAM usage up to 2.9-3.1GB So that's no the problem either.

Whenever I have high FPS (50-60), I see GPU usage on both at 90%+

When I get lags (driving around and even in houses) fps is avg around 24 and can drop to 15 :/

It's really weird.

Things I've tried

 - Disable FXAA

 - Disable Antistrophic Filtering (Currently 16x, no difference)

 - Installing latest GTA V Optimized driver 15.4 from AMD (got more lags, constant avg fps at 10. GJ AMD, prob meant for newer Cards).

Any help will be appriciated.

i dont run crossfire

60-80fps max settings msaax2/no advanced 1080p

15.4 beta

Ouch. Is HD 6990 that bad a card though? Or is it really just the drivers? I'm almost 100% sure that it should be able to pull this game, at my settings at 50-60 fps? I mean, come on. Recommended GPU is 660 GTX

Pretty sure that 6990 packs a bigger punch? xD

yours a dual gpu i am pretty sure

its a good card when it works right i am guessing dont quote me on it i never owned a dual gpu card b4 or done crossfire b4 , i always went single high performance to save the headaches of crossfire or sli launch issues

depends on the game and its crossfire performance and launch day games are probably not gonna be your friend lol u will have to wait for updates to max ur cards potential, u will probably get that 50-60 eventually

how loud is that card anyway lol i had a 6950 that sounded like it was invading iraq lol, it died a horrible death memory issues lol

HAH! Okay thanks for your help. Actually it's not noisy. Don't know why people are complaining. it only ramps if for a few secs, then shuts off. Can't hear it. I can hear case-fans on 1000 rpm more than i hear the GPU. It's probably because people overclock it, I don't. I just enabled the "overclock" bios, ramping it up to 880MHz, thus 2x6970. Temps are fine, Noise is fine :-D

Playing cs go right now 120 fps limited 43% gpu use on each and 75'C.
