Cheaper 290X or Expensive 970?

REX.exe
Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

They perform similarly. If the 290x doesn't end up making your psu cost that much more if at all, go for it.

So @Arkaney found an amazing drop in price for the windforce R9 290X. $399 (AUD) to be precise. And I wanted to ask the community if it would be good to buy this? It's not second hand or anything.

OR should I stick with my G1 Gaming 970? I would love to save all the extra cash seeing the 290X and the 970 have pretty similar performance. I do know the 290X makes more heat, but I'd still like to save the money.

NO AMD AND NVIDIA WARS HERE PLEASE. YOU ESPECIALLY @Vexzarium

If you're referring to the psu in your sig, you should be fine as long as you don't heavily oc.

Of course. Is the current clock speed alright though? I've only ever owned cards with high clock speeds.

You made it sound like you already have one. Go with the AMD windforce R9 290X. You will need a bigger psu if you want to crossfire and oc those cards. One card can peak to 375w and two would be around 675w or higher depending on oc.

Just letting you know the cards is 675w in crossfire without oc. They recommend an 850w psu if ever decide to go crossfire.

I will be selling my modular Corsair AX850w psu soon. I'm upgrading to a 1000w psu just to be safe. How much you looking to spend?

I would go with EVGA when you get the money and sell your 750w.

Fully modular? I would love to buy the 800W of of you. How much are you selling it for? How long did you have it for? What condition would you say it is in? When telling me what prices keep in mind I'm in Australia (AUD)

I forgot your in Australia. Yes, its fully modular. How much is it too ship from United States to Australia? I've had it since July 2012. I would say its in excellent condition because I clean my case a lot. I don't move the case unless I am cleaning it. Power supply has a 7 year warranty on it. It would cost me $24.75 just to send it to you. :( Might not be worth it to sell it :(.
