Is my optical mouse dying?

Recently my mouse is acting up. When I move it it tends to go off in a different direction than I want it. It tends to go in a diagonal direction when I am holding the mouse still but the pointer is still moving. 

 

Is it starting to die on me and should I look for a new mouse?

all you can really do is clean it, make sure the pad you use is clean and or new. make sure the drivers and firmware are up to date and if nothing works then yeah, its time to get a new one. Long shot but check if its still under warranty.
