I've gotten the upgrade bug recently after hearing more news about Skylake coming out later this year. My current build is: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BkPcvK

Within the last 6 months, I've run into issues with my system when powering up as it wouldn't POST and also struggled with BSOD issues. I've recently reinstalled Win7 64 bit Home Premium which has solved most of my problems even though I'm still getting random BSODs after pulling out my usb drives every now and then while also having hardware malfunction with Razer's software for my Deathadder and keyboard. Also, some of the mobo's USB 3.0 ports don't even work which concerns me over the longevity of my system in the next 2+ years. I'm thinking about do a system upgrade which includes Win 8.1 until I'm ready to go to Win 10 when it's fully stabilized.

After hearing about Skylake coming out this year as close to August/October, I'm curious to see overall performance increases compared to a stock/OC'd 2500k. I feel the performance increase may be marginal so I'm considering picking up a 4690k with the expectancy of using it for a good 4-5 years before the next big upgrade. I mainly use my rig for gaming besides listening to music, having at least 30+ tabs opened in chrome, and doing college work. I know the 2500k still has a lot of life in it, but seeing what the latest Z97 mobos offer in terms of current hardware compared to my P67 board I feel I should upgrade.

This is all speculation for now, but the following for my future build is: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xWZbf7

I know that the 4690k is the best processor gaming compared to a 4790k and X99 processors since I'm not doing any video editing/rending. I do want to go with a closed-looped water cooler for OC and aesthetics, but I'm considering the Noctua DH-14/15 as well since I'm a bit hesitant after reading horror reviews of corsairs water coolers leaking over time. I also wanted to replace my current PSU with a fully modular one for less cable clutter. I may also add a 1TB 850 EVO SSD for games storage as well. All of the parts will be purchased online since their isn't a local Micro Center, Fry's, or any other computer part vendor besides Best Buy in Hawaii.

I'm still on the fence about the upgrade, but I may pull the trigger in a month or two or I could completely hold out until Skylake, but by then it may be too late as I'm moving out of state back home so cash spending may be limited.

Thoughts and suggestions?

If you were to upgrade, wait for Skylake.

If I were you I'd probably just go find another LGA1155 board off eBay. ASRock is junk and always has been, fuck me for buying their products.

pc specs: 4 function calculator / 8 digit lcd display / colored numeric and function buttons
