Pc won't boot, CPU light red

So, i just built my new pc and switched it on, the graphics card lights up and all the fans spin but there's a red light (labelled CPU_LED) and i can't get anything to show on my monitor (tried HDMI and DVI). Both the CPU and motherboard were bought second hand but both of the sellers said they worked. i'm using an FX9370 CPU and an ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard.

There's a reason I don't buy second hand things such as CPU's and GPU's and other "chips" for computers. Cases, powersupplies, and fans are something that I may buy second hand. 

 

You don't know what the last owner did.

i got the cpu off of ebay so no i didnt see it working, but the post said 'GOOD WORKING ORDER' and there was a tiny bit of thermal compound left on the cpu so it looks like it's been used

ohh... could be the GPU. Do you have the PCI-E connectors plugged in? Is it pushed all the way in the PCIE slot?

Try the board bios reset and see if that helps.

I have the same board if you change cpus or have a failed overclock it will do that.

hmm, GPU was new and everything's in properly

Alright. Maybe you have a GPU lying around?

Could also be the video cords you're using, maybe test those out.

cables definitely work, been using those for a while

i've had a look at compatability and i'm going to get a super cheap sempron cpu to try and get the mobo into bios to update bios to work with the 9370.

could be it if its an old rev.
