Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade my current rig with a new monitor for both gaming and working (mostly CAD).

The only game I play that would be power demanding will be Witcher 3 which I really would love to play at high settings with very nice fps.

I also play competitive CSGO and some other RTS games that aren't as power hunger but would take advantage of high refresh rates.

Work side, I don't render very often and color accuracy isn't that strict. However, IPS is a must and I would take advantage of more spaces on the monitor.

Ideal situation would be buying a new CPU and GPU only considering I'm happy with my DDR3, H97 board and others.

What would you suggest on upgrading?

Should I consider X99?

What monitor do you think fits me the best?

budget?

If not X99 then I'll say within $1000 excluding monitor.

I'd pay up to $1000 for monitor alone if it's really worth it

high refresh rate you mean 144hz ? http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XB270HU-bprz-27-inch-Widescreen/dp/B00UPVXDA8

i think x99 is not really worth it in your situation

I've been looking at this monitor as well, should I maybe try 4k?

That pc isn't really suitable for 4k gaming at high refresh rates.

mlg Mlg MLg MLG!!!!!

But regarding an upgrade, I would consider maybe upgrading to an x99 setup purely for the higher end i7s/Xeon processor that take advantage of the 2011 socket.

It Won't Fail Cause of Me.

Lol~

But what are the advantages of the 2011 socket? Looks like a lot of money comparing to the normal 1150 sockets.

Indeed it is but it has a better upgrade path for the future as 1150 is slowly becoming more and more redundant.

2011 offers ddr4 for a start but for intensive processes like CAD the 6+ core CPUs available on that platform are highly useful.

It is significantly more expensive than the 1150 socket, however if you can find the money to invest in it, in my mind, it would be worth it as it would have a significant longevity

I have around $2000 CAD to play with including buying a new monitor. How would you spend it?

Thats not a budget for 4K gaming so forget about 4K. Going to 1440p could work but if u want more workspace then 2x1080p would fit your situation the best imho.

U said u dont care about colour accuracy but u were willing to spend $1000 for a monitor, thats a lot and only non-professional monitors so expensive would be 1440p IPS or 144Hz ones.

My best bet would be:

i7-4790k

Z97

H100i / noctua NH-D15

GTX 970 / 980

16GB RAM

256 GB SSD + 1TB HDD

600-700w

2x1080p or if possible 1440p+1080p

Had to put more options in there because i dont know what HW u can realisticaly get in Canada for your budget.

Connection200mbps / 12mbps 5Ghz wifi

My baby: CPU - i7-4790, MB - Z97-A, RAM - Corsair Veng. LP 16gb, GPU - MSI GTX 1060, PSU - CXM 600, Storage - Evo 840 120gb, MX100 256gb, WD Blue 1TB, Cooler - Hyper Evo 212, Case - Corsair Carbide 200R, Monitor - Benq  XL2430T 144Hz, Mouse - FinalMouse, Keyboard -K70 RGB, OS - Win 10, Audio - DT990 Pro, Phone - iPhone SE
