HDD Cloning

Go to solution Solved by killchain,

It probably cloned the old partition along with its original size. What software did you use to do the cloning?

If I'm thinking right, there's currently that 250 GB partition on the drive plus some unpartitioned space (maybe around 210-220 GB because Windows will tell you the whole drive is something like 460-470 GB).

You can right click your "My Computer" icon and choose "Manage". From there, go to "Disk Management" and you should see a nice diagram of this drive (and other drives you may have connected).

Hello, I just finished cloning my old 250 gig hdd to my new 500 gig one, but yet windows says that there is only about 250 gigs of space total. I have the 250 gig hdd disconnected, and all that. What do I do? Thanks for help!

Hey Vivilacqua1,

As @killchain explained, after cloning a drive, you will have the old drive's capacity and partitions and all the remaining space will be unallocated. You should navigate to disk management and either extend your current partition over the unallocated space or create a new partition from it. :)
