i want to build my brother a cheap gaming pc with some old sapre parts i have that can play all the new games at console level at least. i have a radeon 7950 and an asrock 970 exstreme 4 motherboard and 8gb of ddr3 1600mhz ram. he wants to play games like gta 5 and battlefield nso i was going to just buy an fx 6300. i myself have an 8350 so why not. but i have been looking at benchmarks for the considerably cheaper fx 4300 and it seems to be playing games just fine. should i get him that and save money or get him a 6300. will the extra cores be very needed?

If I know one part that is the ultimate budget pick and is awesome.. it's the Corsair 200R (amazing case for the money).

Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P CPU: AMD FX 8350 RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3 8gb (2x4gb@1600Mhz) GPU: Gigabyte R9 280x (factory oc) PSU: Thermaltake SmartSE 730w Case: Corsair 200R

If you didn't already have the mobo I would say go down the I3 route but seen as you are sticking with amd I would definitely get the fx6300.

Don't forget to follow your won topics.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

So you have a 970 and a 7950

The 970 is the name of the mobo.

Personally I'd stay well clear of AMD CPUs these days. Very weak per core performance in contrast with Intel plus the power consumption and heat is simply garbage. Far better to go the i5 skt 1150 Z97 route and you'll have a good upgrade path to an i7 in time. Moreover the machine will be cheaper to run and perform better for a lot longer.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

JayzTwoCents did a video on this a while ago.

For you to see you make your money back buying an Intel over a (roughly) equivalent AMD, you have to wait at least 5 years. By that time, you'll probably have upgraded anyway.

Whilst it will certainly perform better, it is by no means cheaper in the long run when you take into account the considerable premium of an Intel over an AMD.
