Hey guys,

So I have this problem when hooking up three monitors and extending displays across all three. I've looked so much online and there's no common solution. Here's my setup

AMD Radeon HD 7970:

DVI--> DVI 24" ASUS Monitor

DVI--> DVI 17" Dell Monitor

Mini Displayport-->MDP-DVI Converter-->DVI HP Compaq 20" Monitor

Now the problem is, on the DVI connections, I get perfect quality, but when using the MDP-DVI Converter to convert the signal (the adapter is ACTIVE, not PASSIVE), it only gives me an option to set the resolution as 640x480. I know what you're thinking - ugh.... Anyway, I really need a solution, I just blew $20 on this converter to I could get three extended displays to work (I am not using EyeFinity btw).

Is there a common solution for me out there?

Thanks for the help! :)

I'm not sure but it might just be a bad adapter.

If you have integrated graphics, you could just run the 3rd monitor off of that.

Most motherboards turn off intergrated graphics when there is a GPU populating the PCI-E slot. But there are ways around it.

Just go into the bios and turn on IGD multi-monitor.

So I went to the BIOS and enabled this option. It had a different name on my motherboard but I found it eventually. I am now running one of my monitors off of Intel HD 4000 and the other two off of my Radeon 7970.

Thanks so much for the help! Now I have to return that adapter :/

Before you get any further I want to blame the adaptor.

I purchased a MDP-HDMI "Active" adaptor but it plain refused to work. So I forked out more money for MDP-DVI from Club3D and it worked great.

Now I went back and prised open the MDP-HDMI and inside was an IC w/ PIC chip the Chips product number indicated it was an active converter but could not support multi-monitor systems.

Be careful with what you buy.
