Hi

I would like some help building a silent gaming pc.

I looked at the build guide Linus did

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274112-parts-list-for-ultimate-silent-gaming-workstation-pc-build-guide/

But I is very expensive and would like help building some similarly just cheaper.

I will be using it for gaming and streaming.

Was planing on using:

be quiet! Silent Base 800

ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX

Power Supply: Seasonic 520W Fanless FL2 80 Plus Platinum

You can suggest something else if better. Gonna spend about 2100$

Thanks.

if you want something cheaper than a 980 isnt necessary, a 970 should do just fine. water cooling should make everything quieter.

Different PCPartPickers for different countries:

UK-----Italy----Canada-----Spain-----Germany-----Austrailia-----New Zealand-----'Murica-----France-----India

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

So... how much was it that you are willing to spend?

Not at this extreme.

No CPU fan, GPU fan is off at idle, 3 case fans which were sound optimized, plus at low RPM

Sig under construction.

Honestly the key to silence is simply low rpm fans (depending on the case, but no higher than 1200rpm, try to get 800rpm). and some accoustic dampening on your HDDs, those things will be your loudest component.

Theres really no need to watercool anything unless you personally want the looks or youre OCing.  For silence i would recommend some good large CPU coolers, that being said , with a good airflow case, you might even get away with a stock intel cooler with some tweeks.

IMHO dont get too big of a case where you will have bad airflow, esp around gpu and cpu area. Mid tower with some large slow fans are perfect. A good PSU with a good fan is pretty much silent as well, that 520w seasonic play will definitely need to ramp up its fan to power those specs.

As for GPU, having the 900 series with zero fan mode is nice. But i find that the gigabyte winforce(with manual fan control) or aftermarket GPU air coolers work wonders too.

Just finished making a dead silent In Win 901 pc . Damn that thing has no sound isolation whatsoever.

oh.. good luck on your build. :)

Here's basically the same system I have. I personally love the H440 and it's pretty damn silent, but you could always swap out the Be Quiet case in it's place. The power supply I choose is better and has a hybrid fan mode where the fan only spins when it needs the air. Your budget also gives you room for the new Acer XB270HU IPS 1440p G-sync. I have the same monitor and it is killer(may or may not be able to find it at the same price I did). You could also get a cheaper air cooler and bump up to an i7-4790k if you wanted, but I found this to be a fine setup.

"yea sure, let me just stretch the build to 100$ ovebudget. cuz why not?" -No Nrg, 2015.

And let's not include the OS either.

Cause you were so much help..... $84 really isn't that much more in the pursuit of the best parts you can get. If he doesn't like the budget I ended at he can get a cheaper 1440p monitor and be under budget. He didn't ask for an OS, so I didn't include it.

I literally meant 100$, seeing as that is the price without MIRs. Also, if some1 is building a new system, builders should always include OS, unless they are re-using parts from an older pc (in which case he'll use the old PC's license as well).
