8120 should be fine for a 770. You could upgrade your CPU to an 8320 or 8350. (You'll probably need a BIOS update in order to use the Vishera CPUs)

what motherboard, psu and cooler do you have? these are quite important.

You should be fine with your current cpu if you overclock it.

Architecture of the first gen FX was garbage, it was destroyed by a G860 dual core CPU in games back in 2012.  Looking for the chart.

Specs: Core I7-2600K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.35V, 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance Black 1600MHz CL9, Cooler Master Evo 212, MSI Z77 Mpower Motherboard, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-X @ 1000/1400, Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue Edition w/ 3 Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 120MM fans (2 up top 1 in the bottom) replaced side panel with a window, and rear fan with a Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 140MM, Cooler Master GX 650 80+ Bronze PSU, Samsung DVD-RW, Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD, Seagate 750GB SATA III 7200RPM

the g860 does beat it because it can't be overclocked and you would be stupid to have on and not oc. they were very bad but for power consumption and heat. it still holds the fastest cpu frequency ever.

Even an overclocked bulldozer CPU barely beats a G860 and the G860 I had on stock heatsink topped out at 51*C on prime 95.
