SLi 660 vs 970

Go to solution Solved by Dzzope,

If you can afford it the 970 will be better for more of the time, consume less power, produce less heat and noise.

I can save alomst 80 bucks if I go with the sli. 80 bucks worth the sli config? Up to 130 if I go used with one 660. I already have a 660 I got for 138 and will these be good enough for 1080 medium - high star citizens?

I have one 660 right now. I got it this week for 130 and my plan is to sli it with one more. The total price would be 220 versus the 350 for a 970. The performance wouldn't be that far off right? I just need it to be able to be used till the next gen of cards in 2016. Will this setup work for star citizens and medium 1080.? It should at around 35-45 fps I believe.

Even a single 660 would be good enough, depending on what level of graphics settings you find acceptable. For star citizen specifically, you best bet is to look for sli benches and then extrapolate what a 660 will get (if you can find 670 or similar SLI benches)

If your only waiting for the next gen of Nvidia (Pascal?) and playing 1080 @ 60hz, Id be sorely tempted to turn down some of the shiny and then get an amazing upgrade next year. :)
