Will my CPU bottleneck my GPU?

So I have a AMD Athlon II X4 640 at a stock 3.0 ghz and I was wondering if it would bottleneck my GTX 670 2GB.

If you have both, run a game. if your gpu usage is at 100%, then the graphics card is the bottlneck. if its less, then something else is. 

 

In some games, it  will, but in most, it may not.

A 670 is pretty decent. An older Athlon will be a performance suck.

You should be fine Quad Core with the 670

If you have both, run a game. if your gpu usage is at 100%, then the graphics card is the bottlneck. if its less, then something else is.

Use the 670 but turn settings down. The Athlon has pretty poor per-core performance, so though it may not be working 100% it still won't be able to perform as good as an Intel CPU with more per-core performance.

my friend has this cpu and the gpu is the limit, ive tried my r9-290 in it and games that are well made the gpu was still the limit.

i would go with the gtx 670, there is a bottleneck but on in all games... For the most part i think its ok

The 670 will still yield better performance, it just won't be used to it's full potential.

skyrim is badly multi threaded but the requirement is a q6600 so you're fine

cs;go, the requirements a pentium 3isnt it? the games from 1999

gta5, yeah this eats 4670ks for breakfast, fx6 or i7 (k edition doesnt matter, you want threads)

other users 4670k from a thread a few days ago complaining of bad performance

most modern games are multi threaded and the single core performance is low (hasnt changed in years) thats why an i3 performs so much like an i5 and buying more cores like a 5820k dont help. (which most idiots think makes a 4670k a perfect chip when your paying 4x more for 2x g3258's)

Basically, just turn some settings down of some sort to run it.

thankfully i like to test things myself rather than talk out my ass

everything on "normal" with 0msaa, 2x AF and 720p.

everything on very high 1080p (windowed) 4xmsaa etc

(only getting low gpu usage because I hadnt set it at that point and was at 720p)

op, you'll be on the limit on both your cpu and vram but it will be very playable.
