I have 2 LED strips in my case and wanted to add an on off switch. Currently I have this small slider switch but wondered if this was powerful enough to handle the LED strips. I'm not an electrical guy so if anyone knows if this is substantial enough please let me know.

Thanks in advance (:

LED's (even LED strips) draw very little current. That switch should handle it.

What you should do is 'mock up' the wiring on your desk with a 9V (or two 6V in series) battery. That way you'll be able to do find out what you have to insulate with hot glue or LET before you have a short inside your rig.

That switch looks like it came off an old PCB. The two ends look like the were soldered down for strength and the 6 pins in the mid would have to be... Idk, you'll have to do the testing unless you know.

Could just save yourself the work and wire one short LED strip right into 12V. That way you'll never have to turn it off because the light will be much dimmer, but still noticeable. You want contrast in your build, not a light show.

I salvaged the switch from an old clock previously when i need other parts XD

So I'll use a piece of PCB to mount the switch and do a mock up and run for a few hours to make sure it doesn't short or overheat.

Thanks for the advice and help (:
