What happens if I swap out a CPU with the same platform?

If there's an overclock applied, that'll be reset. But everything else should remain the same.

Hi everyone,

This may be a silly question but what happens if I switch out a CPU with another one that's still in the same platform? My friend wants to swap out his FX-6300 for an 8350 and asked me if anything will reset or change. I've no idea since I've always upgraded to new platforms when upgrading. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated!

Atleast when i swaped between my pentium g3258 and i5 4670k it didn't do anything.

Firstly, nothing will reset.

Secondly, if hes gaming that upgrade would be pointless.
