Hi Everyone,

Considering building my first PC and would like to get everyone's opinion/suggestion on my build and if there is a better way to do it.

My Needs:

- Multi-core programming

- Single Thread programming (VBA Excel)

- Password cracking (using GPU so I guess compute performance is important?)

- Light Photoshop work

- Light gaming (maybe a little bit of Counter-Strike at Ultra res or COD)

- 2 or 3 monitor setup (not 4k, 1080 works just fine for me)

- Needs to be fast (Raid 0 SSD)

- Overall more a workstation than gaming PC but still needs to play games

My Build:

Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor

Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

MSI X99S SLI Plus ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2666 Memory

Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (2 of them RAID 0)

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Hybrid Video Card

Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case

Corsair 750W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Any suggestions on a not so expensive monitor (looking for glass monitor with minimal bezel in 2 or 3 monitor setup)

I will be adding another hard drive down the road maybe like a WD Green 2 TB

Questions:

1) Considering my needs should I stick with Intel or AMD

2) Anyway to improve this build while bringing down the price? Currently with no monitor its sitting at $2600 CAD with no monitors

3) Do I need a better motherboard since I will be overclocking and integrated wifi would be great. (I like the Asus ROG MOB with the start buttons but so expensive )

4) Changing the case and video card will be a hard since the case is hands down the best looking and the 980 water cooled is just so damn sexy

5) I don't think there are any conflict in parts but any and all suggestions are great.

Thanks for all you help.

1. Any build over 600-700 bucks should (definitely) go with intel since you can get i5s, i7s or higher.

2. If you go with a i7 4790k it will bring it down with a couple hundred bucks or something. But I am ot sure how much it will affect your work performance since all I do is gaming.

3. As far as I know nearly any x99 motherboard is fine.

4. It looks pretty good so I guess it will have to come down to the looks vs pricing :P

5. I doubt there are any compatibility problems either but to be sure you can make the build in pcpartpicker.com and it will tell you.

One thing that would help us to bring down the cost is if you tell us your budget.

If you're going to raid then you need more storage like an extra hdd or sonething. I'm only going to raid mine because I have 1tb of ssd and an extra 2tb hdd. 250gb isn't enough in my mind
