Hey !

I was wondering how silent is silent ?

What I mean is by now, my PC emit around 31dB, measured with a SPL meter, at 2" from the top of the case.

This is the idle noise and it's probably 2 dB or 3dB higher than the room sound.

Fans are turning at 700-800 RPM.

This is pretty good but I still heard it and I would like to try some silent fans...

If I replace my (2X 120mm intake AC F12 + 1X 120mm exhaust Corsair SP) fans

with the Noctua NF-S12B Redux 1200, will I be able to really heard a difference ?

The CPU fan is the stock CM Evo 212 fan, it's pretty silent so I will probably keep it,

unless there is a good reason to change it. I would have change it anyway if Noctua

were making some REDUX series enhance for static pressure... I like the grey REDUX

but I'm not gonna pay almost twice the price for that beige/brown color... yes, I know...

Thanks !

Well dB is calculated as 10log( Intensity / Io) where Io is the reference intensity which is 10^-12 W/m^2 Intensity is a measure of power/ area.  So a silent fan would need to be on the order of 10^-11 W/m^2 aka 10dB.

yes, noctua fans at 1200rpm are much quieter than AC and corsair fans

cant really give you numbers since loudness is relative to each person, but I noticed a big difference between 25db AC and corsair fans and 15-20db fans
