Hi,

I have recently built a new PC within the last three weeks or so. Up until now it has worked near flawlessly. However while playing a game and watching a stream the PC switched off for no apparent reason.

I run a 5820K at 4GHz

An MSI gaming 7 X99S

A MSI GTX 960

8GB of Ram

A 120GB SSD

A 1TB HDD

and  600W PSU

I thought it might have been due to overheating however my temps never exceed 60c and I don't what the cause could be.

The only thing I have noticed is that the clear cmos light on the back of the motherboard which is usually illuminated when the PC is switched off no longer is. However the onboard power button is illuminated leading me to believe it isn't the MB.

Is there anything I'm missing that I could try?

Edit: I pressed tab and enter during my first attemp leading to an incomplete post, sorry

any help is appreciated

Wht type of psu do you have?

Disconnect all the PSU cables.

Jump the PSU using the included jumper or a paper clip.

It's a non-modular power supply, I have to use a CPU power cable extender since the case I am using is a 700D from Corsair and the CPU cable included did not reach from the bottom to the top of the case

that could be a problem, often they are not the highest quality. Can you remove all extensions and make sure they are securely connected and try again

I did the jumper test and the PSU fan failed to turn on. I guess it was a dead PSU afterall. I was just skeptical since that when everything was plugged in the MB power switch was illuminated.

The PSU incidentally was an older one from a previous build that I recycled due to funding issues.

Thanks for the help
