If I disable my gtx 870m graphics chip in my laptop, will my battery last longer?

I want to get as much battery life as possible out of my laptop when I'm out doing things at school or doing day to day things, will disabling my mobile gpu and using my integrated graphics make my battery last longer?

Yes it will and by a noticeable amount. With an 870m you can't really use it effectively on battery anyway.

If it is actually using the 870m it will help.

Most laptops default to their IGP when not under heavy load anyway so it may not make much of a difference if you're just doing school work.
