Hello

My old pc is starting having some issues while gaming. I think it might be time to add a little more ram.

But i am unsure what ram to add.

Motherboard:

Gigabyte: Ga-x58a-ud7

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3527#ov

At the moment it have this installed:

Corsair Dominator DHX+ DDR3 1600MHz 6GB

Kit w/3x 2GB XMS3 modules, CL7-8-7-20, for Core i7

So i am wondering if i need to use the 3 slots? or can i go 2x2 ?

or seeing as a 4gb stick aint so bad in price perhaps just buy 3 new 4gb sticks and trow out the old 2gb.

Before i do is there anything i need to be carefull about :P

Any help would be appreciated

I'm surprised your having gaming issues with 6gb of ram unless you actuality are maxing out your RAM or they are having issues.

I would look more closely at finding the root of your gaming issues.

Just because you upgrade to more RAM doesn't mean your going to get more performance.

CPU: 3770K | Motherboard: Asus Maximus V Formula | GPU: GTX 1080Ti SLI | Ram: 16gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 | PSU: Corsair AX1200i | Storage: 2x Samsung 840 pros | Case: Corsair 650D | Cooler:  Corsair H100i with Noctus NF-F12 fans | Monitor: Asus ROG Swift PG278Q

CPU and GPU are the things that slow down system

not RAM

an old HDD can cause lag too

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Hmm. Thanks for the answers.

The reason i thought it was the ram was that i saw the system was using 100% of it.

But it might as dragoon says. I have a really old 500 HDD from the days were 500gb was the max you could buy. Where this game is installed.

Ill try and if i cant find enough space on the ssd to install it and test that.

Thanks people :D
